Never Enough
Thinking back on how God has blessed my life is always overwhelming. It is easy in the moment to be frustrated when you think about what you have not accomplished, but when you glance back and see what all God has done -- and especially all he has accomplished through His people -- it is hard not to be grateful. And that even seems to never really be enough.
As I reflect on my kid’s lives I see so many people who have been a part of “raising them” in the Lord here at Highland Park. Jackson was just a few years old when we moved here and Destin was less than two. Branslee, Stana, and Cyprus have never known another place. It is hard to believe that Destin is getting married in a few short days. So many of you have taught her, babysat her, entertained her, or just been a smiling face and goofy joke needed when the day might have been difficult. But so many of you have gotten her to where she is and we are thankful.
The ceremony is intentionally pretty small, but I know she is so thankful for the many gifts, cards, and well-wishes she has received. And thanks to all those who have helped pull it all together and make it work out. Thank you is truly never enough to express full gratitude.
I’ve joked on several occasions that we are “losing her” to Jay. While it feels that way, I know that they are really not that far away. I’m not losing her. I’m gaining a son-in-law. However, it cuts enough to make you at least stop and think about the sacrifice the Father made for us. He gave His Son to the Bride--the church--here on earth and knew that the only way our Groom could save us was to sacrifice Himself. I cannot fully fathom that kind of love and sacrifice. But I am ever so thankful for it. I know our thanks will never be enough to fully express what it means to us. And yet, He did it for us anyway.
