Uncle Mo

If you have ever spent much time watching sports then you have heard discussions about momentum within the game. One play can give a momentum shift to the whole game. A fumble recovery for a touchdown in football...a double play in baseball...a couple of three point shots in basketball hitting their mark in a matter of a few seconds. Moments like those tend to really turn the tide in a competition.

There are similar shifts that take place on the spiritual battlefield. Noah’s righteousness saving the planet from total destruction after everyone else in the world had fallen into darkness. The burning bush call from God to send a rejected Egyptian ruler back to the country he was raised in to lead millions of people out of slavery; Not to mention that same nation being backed up to the Red Sea facing certain defeat only to watch the waters part.

There isn’t time to tell all of them. Joshua at Jericho. Daniel in the Lion’s Den. Haaman’s plot being thwarted by Esther. God’s work in Nineveh through Jonah. Joseph’s rise to power in Egypt after his brother’s sold him like a slave. Momentum shifts are all through the Scripture. And the momentum there isn’t accidental. The momentum swings seem to be well orchestrated by the Maker and Master of the Universe. God knows what is needed and when it is needed.

I’ve been so excited to see God at work in our congregation in the small town of Muscle Shoals. He has supplied us with momentum. Our family is growing. People are giving their lives to Him. Our hallways are filled with excited children and fellowshipping adults. It is a blessing that God has given to us. It is momentum. And what we have been given by God needs to be utilized to bring honor and glory to His kingdom. There are souls still searching for God and a community still in need of knowing Jesus.

I am excited...and I hope you are...that a few families have decided to call this their home and a few others who have given their life to Christ for the first time. But I know there are thousands in our community who are not walking with Jesus. Let’s use the momentum God has given us to do the true work He has called us to. Let’s seek the lost and bring them to Jesus for salvation.
